Prinx and Fortune Tire Recall

Recall Information

Prinx Chengshan Tire North America, Inc. (PCTNA) has decided that certain Prinx and Fortune tire models fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 139.

The tires in question were labeled as snow tires in accordance with regulation No. 117 of the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations but they do not have sufficient traction to meet the snow tire definition according to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 139.  If placed into service, the subject tires may not provide the expected traction performance in severe snow weather conditions and could potentially increase the risk of a crash.

All sizes of the following tire lines that have the 3PMS Alpine symbol on the sidewall are being voluntarily recalled due to this incorrect marking.

  • Fortune Tormenta R/T FSR309

  • Prinx HiCountry R/T HR1

  • Fortune Tormenta M/T FSR310

  • Prinx HiCountry M/T HM1

Tires that DO NOT have a 3PMS Alpine symbol on the tire, ARE NOT part of the recall.

Identifying DOT TINs

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) Tire Identification Number (TIN) is a code on a tire’s sidewall that indicates the tire meets US safety standards and provides information about the tire.

DOT TINs identify the size and type of Fortune or Prinx tire you purchased and signify compliance with applicable safety regulations.  The DOT TINs can be found on the tire sidewall just above the wheel flange as shown in the images below.

Important Update

The online submission process for this recall has been discontinued due to low volume. To participate in the recall and receive reimbursement, please call the toll-free Recall Hotline at 1-855-544-4891.  When you call, please be ready to submit proof of ownership of the recalled tires. This typically includes clear photographs of each tire’s DOT TIN (clearly showing the 3PMS Alpine symbol) and proof of purchase or other ownership documentation.

Removal of the Alpine Symbol

PCTNA is offering to remedy these tires by reimbursing for the removal of the alpine symbol from the tire sidewall.  Upon verification with PCTNA that you have tires subject to this recall, we will provide you with instructions to bring your recalled tires to your nearest Fortune or Prinx Tire retailer or to the location where you had the tires originally mounted on your vehicle.

An instruction form can be used by the tire retailer to guide them on the proper way to remove the Alpine symbol with a tire buffer that most tire retailers use every day.

We anticipate that the time needed to remove the symbol from 4 tires will be less than a half hour.

The removal of the Alpine symbol will not affect the performance of your tires.

Warning: Reimbursement requires the removal of the 3PMS Alpine symbol to be completed by a PROFESSIONAL TIRE DEALER AND/OR RETAILER. Removing the 3PMS Alpine symbol on your own may affect the performance of your tire(s).
